“Truly Thankful” Project Day 3: Daylight Savings & the concept of Time

I am thankful for my high school photography teacher, Ms. Allison Stewart, who once told me “it’s never work if you’re having fun.”
I remember one day she was lecturing and she began a discussion about the concept of time and how astounded she is by it.

“The Persistence Of Memory” by Salvador Dali

What the hell is time, anyway? Lately, I find myself thinking about this very subject. Most nights, I don’t really get much sleep in. I’ve given up trying…I’ve stopped counting hours mainly because it’s usually a very small, unhealthy sum. As a full-time college student and president of a campus club with a part-time catering company, time is just a to-go box of lunch for me. Or better yet, I’ll pick it up at the drive through. I can’t sit down and enjoy it. I don’t have time and I don’t even know what time is. So technically, when I do have time, I’m not even able to see it. Can we see time? We like to think that clocks reveal time and human beings can tell time. Sure. But we can’t see it.
Maybe it’s a good thing I don’t live in the New York minute. Wait, did I say that correctly? Would I be living in time at New York or would I be experiencing time in New York? Is time different there than it is here in LA? What’s time like in New York?
Was time constructed by human beings to attain order and eliminate chaos and disorder in the world? Does God hold time in His hands, or is He experiencing “time” (whatever that is) with us?
Am I ridiculous or crazy for asking these questions? But I have more…
Why are we so caught up in the time we have and don’t have? Time robs us, yet “time is money and money is time.” Are we really wasting time, or are we wasting ourselves?
Let us disregard time and start living. Stop thinking about how long it will take and start doing what we’ve always dreamed of doing. The time will pass anyway, right? I hear time does that.
There will always be unanswered questions and things to ponder, but there’s one thing I am sure of: that life is very short and there’s no time for fussing and fighting, my friend…
yours Truly Thankful,
Ani
