Three years ago I closed my first deal at Yelp, where I used to sell Yelp Ads. It was my first job out of college.
Here are 5 things I’ve learned from my career journey so far:
1. Always Be Learning
No job is a waste of time as long as you’re learning! Selling ads at Yelp was not what I wanted to do for the rest of my career and let me tell you it was not an easy job. But I stuck through it and I did really well because my goal was to LEARN so that I can use the skills I’d gain in my next role and moving forward in my career. You bet I’m using those sales skills at my current role at a start-up and for my blog! #growthmindset
2. Rest
Resting and having fun is just as important as working hard. If you aren’t resting and enjoying life, then you’re running on empty and you’ll eventually burn out. I’ve been there and now I literally schedule time on my calendar to rest.
3. Stay In Your Lane
Focus on you because comparing your journey to someone else’s is not going to get you anywhere…it’s just going to stress you out more! Double down on your growth and always look for ways to improve yourself so that you can grow.
4. Self-Love
Be mindful of your thoughts and your words as they can become reality. Be kind to yourself and have grace. Mistakes are inevitable as long as you’re willing to learn and grow. But be proud of yourself for your willingness to try and for how far you’ve come.
5. Community
Surround yourself with people who will encourage you in your path. In the seasons when you feel frustrated or lost, having a good community is key to help you get back on track, remind you of the truth in your value, and reassure you!
