Take These Sunflowers

Take these sunflowers.
Take them
away from my hand
because you’ve
taken all that you can.
Take these sunflowers with a grain of salt.
Take them and roast the seeds with a dash of salt
eat the seeds until your belly is full.
Take a sunflower and smile at it.
Teach your little sister how to play
“he loves me, he loves me not” and
take what you can
of the sunflowers
from her childhood
and whatever’s left of yours.
Take the sunflowers,
cut the dark, ugly bottoms of the stems
and
while you’re at it
take the Red Vase I gave you
break It.
Take the flowers because
you never bought me daffodils
or gave me chocolate
or love.
Take them away

because I’d rather have closure than love.
