Nutella Pull Apart Puff Pastry Heart

Ingredients
  

  • 2 sheets frozen puff pastry
  • 3-4 tablespoon nutella or measure with your heart!
  • 1-2 egg yolks

Instructions
 

Thaw the puff pastry

  • Let the puff pastry sheets sit at room temperature for about 45 minutes to 1 hour until slightly softened but still cold.

Prepare the heart shape & assemble the layers

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Lightly roll out one sheet of puff pastry on the parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Using a pointy utensil (I used a chopstick), gently trace a heart shape directly onto the pastry, starting from the center and working outward.
  • Once satisfied with the shape, use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to cut along the traced lines, removing the excess dough.
  • Spread Nutella evenly over the heart-shaped pastry, leaving a small border around the edges.
  • Place the second sheet of puff pastry directly on top, pressing lightly to adhere.
  • Using the bottom layer as a guide, cut out the heart shape from the top layer so they match perfectly.

Cut out the center

  • Place a heart-shaped cookie cutter in the middle of the pastry and press down to create a small cutout.
  • No heart cookie cutter? Use a round cookie cutter, the rim of a small cup, or any circular object instead. This will still create a focal point and help with twisting the pastry evenly.

Create the pull-apart twists

  • Using a knife, make even cuts from the outer edge of the heart toward the center, about 1 inch apart, stopping at the cookie cutter mark.
  • Gently twist each strip once or twice to create a spiral effect.

Egg wash & bake

  • Beat the egg yolk(s) and brush it over the pastry for a golden finish.
  • Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 18-20 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.

Final touches & serve

  • Let it cool slightly before serving.
  • Optional: Dust with powdered sugar, drizzle with melted chocolate, or sprinkle with chopped hazelnuts for extra flavor.
  • Enjoy warm or at room temperature! Best enjoyed fresh.
